New Dog Park plans
The Mendocino Coast Dog Owners Group (MCDOG), is delighted to announce a fenced, off-leash dog park is in the works. The park will be the second in Mendocino County; the first is also in Fort Bragg, at Noyo Beach on land provided by the City of Fort Bragg.
The Mendocino Coast Recreation and Parks District (MCRPD) recently agreed to work with MCDOG to create a dog park on the grounds of the C. V. Starr Community Center, future home of the Harry Spath Aquatic Center. The dog park will be near the corner of South Lincoln and Willow in Fort Bragg. It will be a public off-leash area that provides a safe place for dogs to run, play and socialize. The dog park will consist of two separate fenced-in areas. The large area will be for general dog play. The smaller area will be for smaller dogs or for shy dogs not quite ready to socialize in the general play area. Water will be available on site and pet “waste stations” will be provided; pet owners will be expected to clean up after their dogs. The park will be open from dawn to dusk, every day of the year. There will be off-street parking, and entry will be free.
MCDOG has agreed to an ambitious schedule, planning to open the fenced dog park before the end of the year.
HOW TO HELP
MCDOG knows people on the coast are anxious to have a fenced dog park; more than 400 people signed petitions requesting places to play off-leash with their canine companions.
Now that MCDOG has secured a location, they need help acquiring funds for fencing, signs and doggie ‘waste-stations’. They’re looking for businesses to donate materials or sponsor amenities, and individual pet lovers to make cash donations - any amount is welcome. They also need volunteers to plan fundraising events, and eventually build fences and set signs. They ask you to give generously to contribution cans you’ll see up and down the coast, or send a tax-deductible donation to MCRPD, attention MCDOG Dog Park Fund, PO Box 2387, Fort Bragg 95437.
