Mendocino Coast Humane Society Makes First Dog Park Donation
Fundraising for the Fort Bragg Dog Park is off to a great start thanks to a $325 donation from the Mendocino Coast Humane Society. Alberta Cottrell, Humane Society Treasurer, contacted MCDOG (Mendocino Coast Dog Owners Group) to say the Humane Society would like to contribute to the dog park fund.
Alberta explained the Humane Society once accepted donations specifically for an off-leash park, and while the money they received would have been useful for any number of important Humane Society programs, it wasn’t available because it was donated specifically for an off-leash park. When she heard MCDOG was raising funds to build a dog park, it was clear the Humane Society funds had found a home.
Johanna Jensen, one of the founders of MCDOG, said she’s delighted about the Humane Society contribution, but she’s not really surprised that MCDOG is already receiving donations. Johanna explained she’s discovered people who live or visit here, especially dog people, tend to be incredibly giving of both time and money. Gail Brodkey, also a founder of MCDOG, added that since the Humane Society’s donation she’s received an additional $345. Then Johanna reported she’s had calls from two business owners offering financial support.
So, if you’re a dog person and you’re looking forward to taking your four-legged friend to the dog park, you can help too. Put a couple of dollars in the MCDOG contribution cans you’ll see up and down the coast, or send a tax-deductible donation to MCRPD, attention MCDOG Dog Park Fund, PO Box 2387, Fort Bragg, CA 95437.
